EV contents are often studied using high-throughput sequencing or quantitative protein mass spectrometry. The source lists candidate selection considerations: relevance to the research or literature; larger fold changes and smaller p-values; relatively more unique peptides; consistency among replicates and expression trends; and GO/KEGG enrichment. Selected proteins can then be assessed using methods such as Western blot, ELISA or PRM.
